Raising a "digital native" can be a double-edged sword. Web and mobile technologies offer incredible amounts of access and interactivity. Some of it good, some of it bad. So how can we protect our little learners? This set of tools may help:
Zing is a fantastic site for finding free e-books! This is a great site for education as a user can search through thousands of books by subject, topic, or reading level. Best of all is the ability for an educator to track their student's learning process through built-in reporting and assessments.
Zammer is a innovative site/app (iOS) for students working on Multiplication & Vocabulary skills. This is done through an interactive game that can be played either: solo, against a friend, or random. The game has students trying to answer questions as fast as possible to earn zollars/badges used to customize their avatar and theme. Best of all is the teacher web interface that allows them to manage their class and track student progress to assess them.Kapuler advises teachers to:*Keep in mind this app is for UK/US and does allow for students to add/request friends (this should always be done under adult/parent approval.)
Zeen is a new (beta) site for creating a digital story. It's a rather interesting site that is very easy to use. A user just creates a board, adds text/quotes, drag-n-drops photos/videos, and then shares their story. My only issue is the site claims to allow stories to be embedded which is ideal for education but I couldn't figure it out. [Written by dkapuler on Feb 02, 2013].

ZangZing is a wonderful new site for photo sharing. This site is ideal for those who like to keep their photos on the web and share w/ others. What makes this so great is how easy it is to use and the ability to create public, private, or hidden groups which determines who can and can't see a person's photos. Also, these photos can be shared on social networking sites and even ordered for print copies.
Zimmer Twins is a site I first covered around 2 yrs ago for digital storytelling. However, now thanks to iLearn Technology, I have learned that Zimmer Twins now has an educational portal for their great cartoon/movie making site. This new version dedicated to schools is great. A paid account lets teachers create a class of up to 40 students. Also, each class gets a blog, the ability to publish/comment (which is all moderated by the teacher), collaborate w/ others, etc. (Written by dkapuler on Oct 25, 2011 11:37 am)
Ziggity Zoom is a wonderful safe site for kids to play games, color, read stories, watch videos and so much more. There is a lot to like on this site and it's an ideal site for kids of all ages where they can find fun/safe activities to do and can improve their creativity and reading.
Online presentation service for creating, editing and sharing presentations. Presentations can now be tagged with tags like "zoho show"(these tags must be enclosed in double-quotes while ... Have a blog/website and would like to feature your latest public Zoho Show presentation there as a side panel listing?)
ZooKazam is a wonderful free iOS app for Augmented Reality that can be used in the Science classroom. This is a fun super easy to use app that has users printing out a "target" and interacting w/ animals, dinosaurs, and safari animals in augmented reality. What's cool is the ability to not only take a photo or video of the animal in augmented reality, but interact w/ it by changing the elements (i.e. make it rain or snow) and more.
It's attractively designed, and provides a fair amount of text that's accessible to English Language Learners about each animal. You can also see short videos, though the audio narration is very fast - even for native English speakers! The Brookfield Zoo in Chicago has a very accessible game about dolphins. and host their well-known Ways of Knowing Trail activity about the South American Rain Forest. See more at Animals.

Zapaday is a new (alpha) site for getting news on the web. What makes Zapaday so special is it tries to bring you news of the future rather than current news. Stefan Hoevenaar, founder of Zapaday: "The internet makes most news old news, instantly. Journalism is now finding new roles, focusing on background stories, opinions and news previews. An open news agenda supports that change. We believe news agendas should be open and free." The way this is done is by Zapaday bots that scan the internet for news on over 4000 sites. Then the content is created by "us" the users. Actual, this is kinda like a giant wiki that people can edit and share by way of creating calendars and other type of news events.
Zondle is a new (beta) site for educational games that supports learning. There are close to 500,000 possible topics and games to choose from in every subject area and the games can even be embedded into a site/blog.
